When Germany ordered all Jews to vacate their homes and get to the train stations, Dahme and her sister, Rita, were told they were going on vacation. The girls were woken up at 3:00 a.m., told to not wear their stars on their coats, and walked with their parents to the next town. They were delivered to a farm where th...

My father was from Pennsylvania and was in the 504th Regiment 82nd during WW2. He was quiet and never talked about it but would always watch the WW2 documentaries. I used to tell him it's over and he would chuckle and say no it's not over.

From 5:05-5:43 is a question that I have wondered about. How can Japan be so naive to think that, after the Pearl Harbor attack, the USA would, in any condition, agree to a negotiated peace. How could they so badly misread the American people and not appreciate the rage Americans felt after Pearl Harbor.

I have studied the 9th SS Division but didn't realise they confronted the Americans at Omaha, I thought that was the 352nd Division. The 9th SS Panzer division, along with the vast bulk of quality Panzer Divisions, faced the British and Canadians. The 9th didn't arrive in the area until 20th June 1944 and was involved in the brutal fighting around the city of Caen and perhaps most notably the bloody combat to seize and hold the critically important heights along Hill 112. So they can't have faced the Americans at Omaha on D-Day?? D-Day deaths were 2,501 for the Americans, 1960 British, 370 Canadians. Sword was the 2nd most difficult sector. No credit given to the 2 British divisions who faced 21st Panzer Division on D-Day?

The British 50th Division were indeed originally a Territorial Division, but they were highly experienced by this time, and possibly considered Britain's best regular infantry division. At Normandy, General Horrocks said of them: - "I cannot give you higher praise than by saying that the most experienced battle fighting Division in the British Army has once more lived up to its high reputation." He was speaking of the 50th, and indeed it was to be the most highly-decorated British division in WW2.

I had the rare privilege of seeing a Bob Hope at Anderson AFB, Guam Island, back 1959. I was only 5 years old, but I was laughing with the thunderous laughing and applause of everyone who attended. Bob Hope lives forever, his comedy is one-of-a-kind. He truly loved the military of all branches. 😂😂😂

Its probably good for Americans to hear about what is was like in Europe at that time. After all, they can hardly have stories about the war in the USA, can they? The USA was 3,000 miles + from the nearest enemy.

As an American tourist at a B&B in Inverness Scotland in 1995, I had the proprietor tell me at dinner that the Americans were “oversexed, overpaid and over here”. I’d heard that before, but I was shocked. (I later explained that British women didn’t kiss unless things got serious, while Americans kissed, just dating, so British women thought us fast and we thought them easy ), so I stammered “but we helped you!” and she replied “well, no one asked you to!” I couldn’t sleep thinking about those 19-20 yr old American boys away from home, sacrificing their lives for a war that wasn’t theirs. I told her so the next morning. I think there are Britons who wanted the Nazis to win.
